Looking for a way to make riding your golf cart more enjoyable? Why not install a windshield on it? A windshield on your golf cart can help to keep rain and wind and bugs from hitting you and your passengers while you’re riding around the course, so it’s a worthwhile investment to make.

Dever Golf Car Sales is your Kentucky golf cart dealer, with locations serving Lexington and Louisville. Here’s what you should know about golf cart windshields so you can purchase the right one for your needs.

OEM or Aftermarket

You can usually opt between an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) or aftermarket windshield when looking to install one.

OEM models are made by the same manufacturer that made your golf cart and they’re specifically designed to fit your cart perfectly, with simple installation. However, OEM windshields might cost more and there may not be that many options available.

Aftermarket windshields are made by all kinds of manufacturers and might be tougher to fit onto your specific golf cart, making it harder to install them. You may get more options, though, and aftermarket parts can cost less.

Acrylic vs. Polycarbonate

Windshields for golf carts are usually constructed from acrylic or polycarbonate, with both materials having their own advantages. Some windshields are made out of a composite of both materials.

Acrylic windshields are very durable and capable of withstanding scratches. However, these windshields may crack in an impact or break if hit by an errant golf ball. Acrylic windshields might be better for golf carts that are used outside of a course for this reason.

Polycarbonate windshields are very tough and capable of withstanding impacts, but they’re more likely to be scratched or dull with time. This is mainly an aesthetic concern. Polycarbonate typically costs more as well.

Facts to Know

Before you shop for a golf cart windshield, you should take several measurements or get them from your cart’s owner’s manual, including the exact make of your golf cart and the length of its roof struts, which are usually either 54” (standard) or 80” (long).

You should also know whether you want a windshield that can be folded up and stored away or a one-piece windshield that’s permanent. Tinting is another consideration: a tinted windshield might help to reduce glare on a sunny day. However, it does cost more.
