Cushman was an early player in the golf cart industry. The Cushman golf cars helped empower people across the country to enjoy a comfortable time out on the golf course. The Legacy of Cushman® Golf Cars

In 1901, Everette and Clinton Cushman founded the company in Lincoln, Nebraska. Its original name was Cushman Motor Works and it began as a gasoline motor manufacturer. The founders left the business in 1919 and the new owner, Charles Ammon, had a new vision for the company. He began making motorized scooters in 1936. 

 

In the late 1950s, the company unveiled three-wheeled and four-wheeled car designs. Over the years, Cushman golf cars gained popularity. A number of celebrities requested personalized Cushman golf cars, including former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Bob Hope, and Frank Sinatra.

 

Over the next several years, the company created a range of gas and electric Cushman golf cars. Then, in 1975, they retired their golf cart lineup. In 1989, the company was purchased by Ransomes Ltd. Textron then took over the company nine years later. Today, their Golf and ProTurf division manufactures a range of vehicles ready to hit the golf course. If you want to own a vintage Cushman golf car, you can still find them in good condition on the used market. You'll be able to own a little piece of history! The Iconic Historical Models

One well-known Cushman vehicle was the 'Meter Maid' carts. These ran off of three wheels and were ideal small municipal vehicles. Patrol officers would use them while cruising around the city, writing parking tickets.

 

Another popular choice was the 'Scotsman' model. It offered impressive versatility to its owners. You could add on a dump bed in order to use the vehicle as a dump truck. Riders could hit a speed of 12 miles per hour.

 

Another iconic model was the “Cushman Comb.” This came with seats that could flip down so that it could fit two extra riders. The seats could also be flipped up to make more space for golf bags.
