If you’ve never visited a golf cart service center before, you may not really know what to expect. Unfortunately, shady mechanics may take advantage of this inexperience, and use the opportunity to provide you with shoddy service or overcharge for their work. That’s why we’ve written up the article below, outlining some of the basic maintenance services your technician should provide when you come in for service.

Electric Golf Cart Maintenance Tasks

Because an electric golf cart is powered by a single battery, service departments will need to pay extra attention to these important components. If you’re taking your electric golf cart to a nearby dealership, you can expect them to perform a discharge test, clean and remove any corrosion, and check that power cables aren’t damaged or too tight. Your service technician should also check and refill the battery water level, inspect high-amperage parts, and replace motor brushes that are too short in length.

Gas Golf Cart Maintenance Tasks

Gas golf carts are a bit more difficult to care for than electric models, and often have a number of different maintenance tasks technicians will need to tackle. For example, a technician should check and repair any fluid leaks, give your model an oil change, and replace the air and fuel filters if necessary. If your spark plugs or engine belts have worn down your technician will also need to replace these components, or tighten them if they’ve become loose. Once these important parts have been tended to, your mechanic should move on to inspecting the length of the starter brushes, checking the compression of the engine, and examining the linkages from the accelerator pedal to the carburetor. Finally, your golf cart’s battery should be load tested, its connections tightened, and any corrosion present should be cleaned and removed.
